INSPIRATION

‘Dear Frankie’ pays homage to the modern artistic woman, one who is creatively fulfilled and liberated from social stereotypes. The collection was inspired by my peers, idols and by the diverse world of fashion. It draws on the visual aesthetic of ‘Frankie’ magazine and on the image of woman exemplified by Frida Kahlo, which celebrates femininity as an embodiment of strength, creativity, independence and uniqueness – a cross pollination of ideas, heritages and cultures. Embracing this image of woman, ‘Dear Frankie’ plays with contradictions and dualities to explore some of the misconceptions inherent in traditional notions of femininity.

What emerges is a form of beauty that is not defined by the male gaze.
